Sport Controller

A Sport Controller organises motorcycle sport events which are described as either competitive/ timed racing events or noncompetitive/ untimed testing events. The Sport Controller holds the ultimate responsibility for the safety of the participants and the protection of the environment.

A Sport Controller sanction means the Controller has official permission or approval by COA to organise motorcycle sport and related activities. The fee for Controllers to sanction with COA is customised for each Controller. All persons participating in COA motorcycle activities that are organised and controlled by a COA sanctioned Sport Controller, receive free temporary membership to COA to participate in the sanctioned activities.

Controllers are insured directly with COA's own insurances, which includes $20M Public Liability and provides protection for Controllers in the event a person brings a claim against a Controller due to them being injured or sustaining property damage as a result of a Controllers negligent activities. COA Sport Controllers are also covered with COA's Officials Liability, which provides Controllers indemnity against ‘wrongful acts' committed by ‘Controllers' acting on behalf of motorcycle and related activities held under the auspices of COA.

Sanctioning means Controllers agree to comply with the requirements of COA, which includes following the COA Events Codes, which is a set of rules that has been prepared to assist COA Sport Controllers to plan, run and manage motorcycle and related activities safely, while meeting legal requirements, government standards and health and safety obligations. The Code is applicable to motorcycle and related activities, and sets a standard of practice for all.

In return for sanctioning as a Sport Controller with COA, Controllers can rest assured that:

  1. Controllers will be covered with $20M public liability insurance to cover the competitive and noncompetitive motorcycle and related activities;
  2. All members participating in a motorcycle activity are also insured and the responsibility of COA;
  3. Any and all liability for members using an approved track is removed from the track owner and placed solely on COA through a simple licence agreement;
  4. Personal liability is removed from the Controller whilst acting on behalf of the competitive and noncompetitive motorcycle and related activities held under the auspices of COA;
  5. All volunteers providing assistance with the organisation and management of COA's motorcycle activities will be covered with personal accident insurance.

COA can make such assurances that sanctioning with us will provide the protection that Controllers should have to protect them and their assets!
