The COA Charity Ltd trading as Covenant Occupied Abodes (COA) is a not for profit community housing provider. Just like our name suggests, the owner occupiers of tiny homes on COA land are part of a "Covenanted Community", which means they have signed a high-level agreement with the other members of the cooperative and that they aren't just "occupants"; they are guardians of a shared promise to maintain the land and the community standards together. In property law and history, a Covenant is more than just a contract; it is a deep, binding promise that "runs with the land." This is the COA vision.
Unlike other housing charities, which operate solely or heavily on government funding, COA Housing works with government, the private sector, community groups and its not for profit sister companies to help provide more affordable housing solutions across Australia.
What do we mean by affordable housing?
When COA Housing refers to ‘affordable housing’, we mean the housing services and products for people on insufficient to moderate incomes. To provide affordable housing, we must first have a foundation capable of supporting the company’s objectives. The support of our partners and stakeholders will help us to fulfil our mission. The foundation of COA Charity is the COA Cooperative, whose function is to be a vehicle where people can come together and pool resources so they can affordably share in the cost of buying land. The COA Association is also part of that foundation, which is about insuring the activities of all persons residing on the communal lands of COA Cooperative and insuring the activities they participate in.
Please note: The COA Charity Ltd is currently undergoing restructure from a Qld Fair Trading not for profit incorporated association to an ASIC not for profit limited company. The change is driven by the need for national operation, improved governance, protection and scaling capabilities. The COA Charity is proudly represented by the striking Yellow and White logo.
